Cardiff Round Table has joined the #RoomsRevolution and is sponsoring 3 hostel rooms at YMCA Cardiff Housing Association for the next year.
Room Sponsors provide a place where a vulnerable person can feel hopeful again. Changing a life takes time, so most people stay for at least four months – and many longer. Here they can get the advice and support they need to regain confidence, develop skills and get in to work or education.
Sadly Cardiff saw a 77% increase in homelessness last year according to Welsh Government statistics. You only have to take an early morning walk around the city centre to witness the reality of this problem. YMCA Cardiff Housing Association is the largest hostel provider in the City providing 128 beds every night to homeless men and women.
When asked about the rise in numbers YMCA Chief Executive, Andrew Jenkins said “Unfortunately the problem is getting worse year on year and the challenges the homeless population face are getting greater. Here at YMCA we aim to give someone a safe place to stay and a better future. Our aim is to provide everyone that comes through our doors the opportunity to improve their lives, by providing the support they need to gain new skills, improve their health and financial independence.”
Andrew continued “We cannot thank Cardiff Round Table enough for showing their support in this way. Becoming a Room Sponsor will have a profound effect on the lives of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. The money donated via our Room Sponsor scheme goes straight to the heart of the problem – giving a safe, warm bed for the night and hope.”
