The life skills project has been designed to help young carers on the ‘Time for Me’ project to develop their skills through activities, accreditation and one to one work. Life skills are a valuable set of skills that everybody should have the opportunity to develop. They include developing good communication skills, social skills and problem solving.
Examples of session include: Confidence Course, Healthy Relationships, Cooking, Dance and Interviewing Skills. Through this project the young carers can attend session where they will not only improve their life skills, but they also have the opportunity to obtain qualifications. We work with YMCA Community College to provide OCN qualifications in some of the topics we cover. There are other accreditation awards that we support and help the young carers to achieve. These can and are updated frequently.
This project also supports a young carers youth forum where the members voice the young carers opinions and ideas. They help to organise events, raise awareness and improve the young carers projects.
