SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service

SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service

A tailored, specialist and confidential Sexual Health and Relationship Service for young people aged 11-25 in Cardiff.

What is the SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service?

The SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service is a project funded through the Families First programme and carried out by YMCA Cardiff. We provide young people in Cardiff with a tailored, specialist and confidential Sexual Health Service.

We also support organisations and schools across Cardiff with sexual health training and information and advice on how they can support young people with their sexual health needs.

SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service Work with Individuals

We work with anyone living within Cardiff aged 11-25 years of age around a multitude of topics. Our one-to-one work is delivered in a place of the young persons choice (at home, at school, at a youth club, at a café etc.)

We also support young people to access the Department of Sexual Health and their sexual health clinics.

Our work with young people is not limited to a set number of sessions and we tailor it to their needs.

SHOT: Group Work

Similarly to the individual work, we offer group sessions to organisations and schools working with young people on the topics shown on the previous page.

These sessions can be a one off or we can deliver a number of sessions to a group.

What areas do SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service cover?

The team are competent in delivering sessions on topics such as:

  • Contraception information
  • Sexually transmitted infections awareness
  • Identifying positive relationships
  • Peer influences regarding sexual health
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Understanding consent
  • Sexual risk taking
  • Inappropriate sexual language/behaviour
  • Online safety and pornography
  • General sexual health knowledge
  • Puberty and growing up
  • Sex and the Law

We also support young people to access testing and contraception at sexual health clinics within Cardiff.

Multiagency Work

Our project is funded by Families First and we work in partnership with organisation such as Public Health Wales, Social Care, the Department of Sexual Health and many other voluntary and statutory services across Cardiff.

Young Person’s Clinic – What’s it all about?

We have created a short film with the help of some young people, the Department of Sexual Health and ProMo-Cymru. Funded by Cardiff Partnership Team.

The film helps to dispel any misconception that some people have about attending Sexual Health Clinic.
