What the Cardiff C-Card Scheme is about?
The YMCA Cardiff C-Card scheme aims to improve young people’s sexual health by increasing access to free condoms, providing accurate information on relationships and contraception, and promoting safer sex to prevent STIs and unplanned pregnancies. We connect young people aged 13–25 with confidential advice, education, and local sexual health services, and work with training professionals to deliver the scheme effectively. Our objective is to make condom use a normal, accepted part of healthy relationships and to ensure every young person can make informed, confident choices about their sexual health.
The Scheme is NOT just about giving out condoms, but allowing young people the opportunity to explore sexual health issues, raise and ask questions in a confidential environment and gain information about sexual health services. Young people, particularly those under 16, are always encouraged to speak to a parent or responsible adult.
Young people are able to get a C-Card by visiting one of our C-Card Points across Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan. A trained professional will then ensure that young people have the skills and information necessary to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health before issuing a C-Card.
Are people trained to deliver C-Card?
All assessors involved in the Cardiff C-Card Scheme are trained and continually supported to provide the best service possible. Youth groups and projects can provide young people with the ideal setting within their communities to seek advice and support on sexual health matters and access to condoms
