YMCA Cardiff Pilots the 100-80-100 Working Model to Enhance Staff Well-Being and Service Delivery

We are thrilled to announce that, starting 1st April 2025, YMCA Cardiff will be piloting the innovative 100-80-100 working model, a flexible working approach designed to significantly improve staff well-being and work-life balance while continuing to deliver exceptional service to our community.

Under this new model, YMCA Cardiff staff will receive 100% of their salary while working 80% of their contracted hours. This means staff will be working fewer hours, but the expectation is that they will continue to deliver 100% of their dedicated outcomes. The 100-80-100 model is being introduced as part of our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and sustainable working environment for all our team members.

The 100-80-100 model has been gaining global attention for its numerous benefits to both employees and organisations. Research has shown that this model helps to boost employee satisfaction, reduce stress, and improve mental health, all while maintaining or even increasing productivity. Additionally, it aids in attracting and retaining top talent, which is essential for the long-term success of any organisation.

Many leading organisations in the UK and internationally have already implemented the 100-80-100 model with great success. Notable examples include Merthyr Valleys Homes, which adopted the model following a successful global trial, and Tai Pawb, who have also embraced the approach. These organisations have reported positive outcomes, including improved employee engagement, better work-life balance, and enhanced performance.

At YMCA Cardiff, we are committed to ensuring that this new way of working does not affect the quality of the services we provide or the vital support we offer to our partners and the individuals we work with. We have introduced a new rota system to ensure there is no disruption to our 24/7 hostel operations and the services offered through YMCA Plas,

We understand that change can bring about questions, and we are dedicated to monitoring the impact of the 100-80-100 model closely. This pilot will help us ensure that it meets the needs of our staff, partners, and the people we support, while allowing us to track the ongoing performance and success of the approach. We are committed to keeping our stakeholders informed about our progress and learning throughout this exciting journey.

We are confident that the 100-80-100 model will bring significant benefits to our staff, enhancing their well-being and work-life balance, while strengthening YMCA Cardiff as an organisation. Most importantly, we believe it will further improve our ability to serve the community and support disadvantaged young people and those facing homelessness.

We look forward to sharing more updates and insights as we continue to pilot this new way of working and remain fully committed to the high standards of support and service that YMCA Cardiff is known for.
